Random Team Generator — Split a list of names into balanced random groups
Paste a list of names and split it into a set number of groups or groups of a set size, shuffled fairly with the Fisher-Yates algorithm. For classes, workshops, team-building and office events.
Enter one name per line, choose the number of groups or the group size, and shuffle.
Team Generator: tips and things to know
- "By number of groups" spreads people evenly (8 people → 2 groups of 4).

Team Generator FAQ
Is the split random?
Yes. Names are shuffled with the Fisher-Yates algorithm, so every combination is equally likely.
What if the numbers do not divide evenly?
By number of groups, the extra people go one each to the first groups (9 people in 4 groups → 3, 2, 2, 2). By group size, only the last group is smaller.
How many people can I enter?
There is no limit; hundreds work fine. Up to 12 groups get distinct colors.
Can I keep certain people apart?
Not yet. If you get a pairing you do not want, shuffle again.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. The group cards rearrange to fit the screen.
