- X (Twitter) allows 280 characters, but Japanese, Chinese and Korean characters count double, so a Japanese post gets 140.
- Japanese applications and essays are measured in characters, not words; a "400-character" limit means 400 characters including punctuation.
- Blog posts of 2,000 to 4,000 characters tend to read well in Japanese, roughly 1,000 to 2,000 English words.
