- Large dogs age faster than small and medium breeds and reach their senior years around 7.
- A cat is about 18 in human terms at one year old and 24 at two; add roughly 4 human years for each year after that.
- Hamsters live only 2 to 3 years, so a 6-month-old is already about 25 in human terms.

What is the calculation based on?
Widely used conversion guides (for example dog: 17 human years at age 1, 24 at age 2, then about 4 per year), informed by AVMA guidance. Treat the result as a rough guide.
Why are small and large dogs different?
Large breeds age faster and reach their senior years earlier. The tool uses 19 human years at age 2 and about 7 per year after that for large dogs, versus 4 per year for small and medium dogs.
How are cats calculated?
18 human years at age 1, 24 at age 2 and about 4 more for each year after that: a 5-year-old cat is about 36, a 10-year-old about 56, a 15-year-old about 76.
How long do rabbits and hamsters live?
Rabbits about 8 years on average, hamsters 2 to 3. The tool shows how far through the average lifespan your pet is.
When does the tool say "senior"?
At a human-equivalent age of 70 or more: around 7 for dogs and cats, 6 for large dogs, and about a year and a half for hamsters.
